Ewan's Leaving Assembly - Lark Rise - at the Grove Theatre

2016 July 21

It was an emotional time anyway, but more so because I know you woud have been so proud and would loved to have been there to see your Grandson Ewan. This was the first time that Lark Rise has had this ocassion - year 6.  Two years ago the school changed from pupils leaving at the age of 9, now it has been extended to the age of 11.  They have gone back to the ways we had George, Junior school and then on to Senior school.  So, Ewan is in the first ever year 6 at Lark Rise and to celebrate the ocassion the school had the leaving assembly in the Grove Theatre - the whole school was there to see it. They had slide shows of the year 6 children showing how they have progressed, photos of the earlier years at school until present day.  The teachers got emotional and some of the year 6 children were very upset.  Ewan is upset but he coped ok.  Each child was called up onto the stage where they were presented with a 'hoody' with the Lark Rise badge on the front and 16 printed on the back in big numbers (this represents the year 2016).  Within the 1 and 6 all the childrens' names were printed - what a lovely memento for them individually to keep.  They were also given a 'computer stick' with I think pictures of the slide show, again a lovely memento. Each teacher had written a piece about one child commending their personality, progress etc., with Ewan it was said how mature for his age he is and what we already know, regarding his personality.  Very proud.  There were speeches and songs - it was a special time - one that will not be repeated because Ewan is one of the first, along with his year, to celebrate this. Tomorrow, Friday 22nd July will be his very last day there as a pupil and I know he will be sad.  There will be teachers that will be very upset that he is leaving - it is going to be a very, very emotional day.

George, these are the words that were written about your Grandson from a TA at Lark Rise - these were read out at the assembly:-

Ewan is a model student!
It is not uncommon to hear staff compliment him on his committed and hard working attitude in the classroom; Ewan-you've been a total pleasure to teach .
Ewan is mature beyond his years, always seen showing consideration and respect to all children across the school and all adults alike.
Observing Ewan in the playground amongst his peers he is a popular boy who is well respected and who is a great team player. He always demonstrates great sportsmanship with his positive and conscientious attitude .
Ewan you should feel very proud of yourself for all you've achieved in year 6, all the staff in UKS2 are certainly very proud of the person you are.
It's been our absolute pleasure working with you. Keep up the great work!

Ewan was also presented with the Endeavour Cup (for the 2nd time during his Lark Rise years') - these are the words that they said about Ewan for that :-

We now move on to the Endeavour Cup. This special award will be given to the two children in Year 6 who have consistently demonstrated a real commitment to their learning by always having an excellent attitude in the classroom and beyond, by trying their best consistently and by persevering – even if presented with learning that has challenged their thinking. They should be really proud of themselves for all they have achieved as a result of endeavouring to do their best; a huge ‘well done’ to… ...... EWAN BIDGOOD

Love you lots George as always xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
